Adopt A Senior Program
Welcome to our Adopt a Senior Program.
We are still under construction and still in the planning stage. But basically
our plan is to identify those senior citizens in our own neighborhood and do some of the little things
that mean a lot to them.
For example, my wife Martha and I have adopted an 88 year old lady who lives alone in the same RV Park that we live in. She
is still very sharp mentally and very independent in spirit, but her age shows in her slow shuffle as she walks.
She sold her car just a year ago and now she depends on
the CAT system for transportation to medical appointments, buy groceries, etc.
But she enjoys playing Bingo and, until Martha became her Bingo Buddy, she was still walking to Sam's Town which is several blocks from the RV Park.
Not only is it a long, hot walk, but it is a very dangerous walk.
As I said, she is still very independent, and it took some hard convincing to get her to let us drive her there and pick her up once or twice a week.
Martha sometimes goes with her to play Bingo and that makes it a lot easier for us to keep her
out of the heat of the day and avoid the inherent personal dangers and the dangers at the intersections she must cross when she walks.
Several times we have taken her to lunch using food comps from a local casino. It costs us nothing, but
she always insists on leaving the tip. She is a real inspiration to us. We thank God for being able to share our blessings with her.
I'm sure you can a find senior to adopt in your own neighborhood. It's a great way to share your blessing of health and youth. When you reach your 88th birthday
you will appreciate help from someone 20 years younger.
